Apple has unveiled its new product based on the proprietary M1 SoC – the all-new iMac. It is presented in seven life-affirming colors and looks more like an iPad Pro on a monitor stand. Surprisingly, the concept video released today with the new iMac turned out to be very similar to the original .
The new iMac runs the BigSur OS, and when combined with the M1, it delivers dramatically improved performance: the computer is 85% faster in real-world applications like Lightroom, and the graphics performance is doubled compared to the 21.5 ”iMac.
The new iMac is not only thinner (50% less internal volume), it is much quieter: the previous bulky cooling system has been replaced by two fans similar to those used in laptops. As a result, the noise level of the new iMac is only 10 dB in normal day-to-day tasks.

The new iMac is the size of the previous 21.5 “iMac and features a 24” 4.5K Retina Display. The front panel of the device is protected by a solid sheet of tempered glass. The novelty also received three microphones, 6 speakers (two low-frequency, two high-frequency, two broadband) with Dolby Atmos support, and a FaceTime HD Camera 1080p webcam.
The new product in the top configuration is equipped with four USB-C ports (two of them are Thunderbolt), and the network adapter with a two-meter cable has a magnetic mount. The developers have provided an interesting and elegant solution: the Ethernet cable is connected to the power supply, and not to the monoblock itself. This eliminates unnecessary cables around the desk where the computer will be installed.
Along with the new computer, a new wireless keyboard Magic Keyboard debuted, the main feature of which is the built-in TouchID fingerprint scanner. It allows you to unlock your computer or pay for purchases with the touch of your finger.
The iMac on the M1 will go on sale in two flavors: $ 1,300 and $ 1,500. Pre-orders will begin from April 30th, with real sales starting in the second half of May.
