According to Taiwan’s supply chain publication DigiTimes, although the sensor-shift optical image stabilization function is currently limited to the iPhone 12 Pro Max, the function will be extended to all iPhone 13 models later this year.
The VCM makers mainly deliver shipments for Android handsets in the first half of the year, but such shipments are expected to be surpassed by those for iPhones in the second half, given that all new iPhones will feature the sensor-shift OIS (optical image stabilization) function, the sources said, adding that the makers have been told to raise capacity by 30-40% to meet strong demand for iPhones. “
DigiTimes has already circulated this rumor in January, but as the iPhone 13 model begins mass production, today’s report provides further assurance.

Apple first introduced the sensor-shift stabilization function on the Wide lens of the iPhone 12 Pro Max. This technology stabilizes the camera’s sensor instead of the lens, resulting in higher image stability and higher photo quality.
“Prior to this, sensor-shift stabilization was only performed on DSLR cameras,” the Apple website explains. “This is the first time it has been adapted into an iPhone version. Whether you are tracking children in the park and shooting videos or blocking your iPhone out of the window on bumpy roads, you will get more accurate stabilization effects than ever before.”
It is expected that the rear camera bulge of the iPhone 13 model will be slightly larger and may adapt to larger sensors and other camera improvements.
