Gmail now offers a ‘Verify it’s you’ prompt for sensitive actions

Google prioritizes its users’ privacy and keeps implementing significant tweaks that can strengthen the security aspects. In the current scenario, the company has imposed an additional layer of safety to Gmail with the ‘Verify it’s you’ prompt.

Notably, Gmail has started showing a new prompt “Verify it’s you” when users try to attempt some sensitive actions in the applications. For your information, the list of sensitive actions falls into three categories:

  • Filters – Creating a new filter, editing an existing filter, or importing filters.
  • Forwarding – Adding a new forwarding address from the Forwarding and POP/IMAP settings.
  • IMAP access – Enabling the IMAP access status from the settings.

When these actions are considered by users, Google will evaluate the session attempting the action. In case it seems risky, the app will show the ‘Verify it’s you’ prompt on the screen confirming if it is really the account holder.

Eventually, the users then have to complete a 2-step verification to ensure the validity of the action. If fails, users will receive a ‘Critical security alert’ notification. This useful change has started rolling out and will be available for all personal and Workspace Google Accounts.
