Apple iOS tips: Increase the battery life of your iPhone
In our previous article, we have shown, how the 5G connectivity affects the battery life of iPhone/iPad devices. Luckily, now we are introducing the solution as to how the users can use the 5G connection accordingly. All they have to understand is the “Smart Data mode” as well as how to switch the connection on the device.
5G Connectivity
The new models of Apple such as iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone SE 3, and more are applicable for 5G networks. However, a notable point is that the third generation iPhone SE only competes with sub-6GHz. While iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 carry both mmWave as well as sub-6GHz. The difference between both these types is that mmWave is a faster version with a limited range. Whereas, sub-6GHz is moderate on a wide range.
No matter which type of 5G network your device is dealing with, the result will be the same- high-battery consumption. This 5G network is on by default in the devices. Therefore, Apple applied a “5G Auto” tool in the device Settings menu that contains the “Smart Data mode” tab. This tab maintains a balance between the fastest network and your device battery to protect it from higher consumption.
The default settings for 5G on iPhone are optimized for battery life and data usage based on your data plan. You can customize these options for when to use 5G and how much data to use in some apps.
Turn on/off 5G:
- Go to the Settings menu
- Select the Cellular option
- Tap on the Cellular Data Options
- Choose Voice & Data
Here, either you can choose the 5G network or can use the LTE connectivity as per your choice. Further, you can select “Allow More Data on 5G” or “Low Data mode” according to your operations over the device. You can learn more about the 5G types and networks on the Apple support page.
