The low-band 5G frequencies are the foundation of T-mobile and AT&T. The 2.5GHz mid-band spectrum is also acquired by T-Mobile from Sprint which is a differentiator for the carrier.
The sub-6GHz can travel over far distances but does not provide super-fast data speeds which we are hoping from 5G. Meanwhile, the other mmWave 5G is a high-band, it does not travel as far as the sub-GHz but it is capable of delivering faster download data speed.
Apple will include a new Smart Data mode in its 5G iPhones. This mode will automatically choose between 4G and 5G depending on the speed you require. It will provide you with faster downloads and will also save the battery of your iPhone.
When you enable the Smart Data Mode on your iPhone, using on-device intelligence it will decide between 4G and 5G networks, which one will be best suited according to the task. The speed will automatically shift to 4G in-case the task is not heavy. Therefore, it saves battery and some data.
