Galaxy Note 20 could have more secure 3D Sonic Max sensor with simultaneous two-finger authentication, 16GB RAM as standard
In 2019, the Samsung Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 series became the first smartphones in the world to use the Qualcomm’s 3D Sonic sensor, but the new technology proved to be less secure and accurate than promised.
Just like last year, Samsung may use the more secure in-display 3D Sonic Max fingerprint technology in the upcoming Galaxy Note 20 devices this year.

According to Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), the Galaxy Note 20 series may become the first smartphones in the world to use the Qualcomm’s 3D Sonic Max sensor, which brings a major new capability: simultaneous two-finger authentication. The 3D Sonic Max could improve user security by requiring two fingers to be scanned at the same time.
According to Qualcomm, the surface area of the scanner is 17 times bigger than before, which makes it “the world’s largest fingerprint sensor”. The bigger scanner will provide substantially more surface area to capture an ultrasonic fingerprint scan
The 3D Sonic Max delivers 1::1,000,000 rather than 1::50,000 accuracies, a dramatic improvement in fighting fingerprint spoofing and inaccurate results. It’s also faster than the previous version of 3D Sonic Sensor, but the speed difference hasn’t yet been quantified.

In addition to the 3D Sonic Max sensor, Young says the Galaxy Note 20 series could have the 16GB of RAM as standard. This is applicable for the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20+. We have already seen the 16GB RAM variant of the Galaxy S20 Ultra with 512GB of internal storage option. Samsung started 16GB LPDDR5 DRAM chips mass-production for smartphones in February this year
Young says the launch of the Galaxy Note 20 could take place in August 2020 alongside the Galaxy Fold 2.
He had confirmed in the past that the regular Galaxy Note 20 will not have a 120Hz screen. Instead, it will stick with an old 60Hz screen. He says the 120Hz display will only be available on the Galaxy Note 20+.
