Samsung Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra: Here’s everything you need to know
Samsung will unveil its new Galaxy S series smartphones at the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2020 event this month. The official introduction will take place on 11 February 2020 in San Francisco
Just like last year, there will be 3 different models (Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra) this year. Here’s everything you need to know.
Design and display:
The Galaxy S20 front design will look similar to the Galaxy Note 10 devices. It will have a rounded display and with 20:9 aspect ratio. They will also have centered hole-punch design of the Galaxy Note 10 devices.
At the back, the camera setup is located to the top left side. There’s no headphone jack. The Galaxy S20 and S20+ will be using a 2.5D (approx.) glass.
The devices will come with the IP68 water-resistant up to 5 meters, improved to 1.5 meters on the Galaxy Note 10 and S10 series phones. The Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20+ will use an aluminum body, while the Galaxy S20 Ultra will have a stainless steel body.
About the display, the Galaxy S20 will come with a 6.2-inch display while the Galaxy S20+ will be coming in 6.7-inch and the Galaxy S20 Ultra will have a massive 6.9-inch display. All three Galaxy S20 variant will come with a 3200×1440 display resolution and 120Hz display.
While using the 120Hz, it will set the display resolution to FHD+ / 2400×1080. You will not be able to run 120Hz at the full 3200×1440 resolution.
Camera:
The Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra will have slightly different camera setups. The Galaxy S20 and S20+ will come with a 12MP main sensor with a pixel size of 1.8μm and a Sony IMX 555 or a Samsung ISOCell. There are a 12MP ultra-wide camera and a 64MP Samsung ISOCell S5KGW2 sensor with a 3x optical zoom with 30x digital zoom.
Sony IMX 374 will be used as the front camera on both models, the same sensor used in the Galaxy S10, Note 10, and Galaxy Fold. Additionally, the will be a Sony IMX 516 ToF sensor on the Galaxy S20+.
Let’s talk about the Galaxy S20 Ultra, it will have a 108MP main sensor, a 48MP telephoto, and a 12MP ultra-wide as well as a ToF sensor. The 108MP camera will be the S5KHM1. The 48MP telephoto will be either the Sony IMX 586 or an ISOCell. The device will support 100x digital zoom and 10X optical zoom. It will have the same camera sensor for a 12MP ultra-wide camera found in the Galaxy S20 and S20+. There will be a Sony IMX 518 ToF sensor. The Galaxy S20 Ultra will have a 40MP front camera, it is Samsung ISOCell S5KGH1.
There will also be a few new camera features, such as Single Take Photo, QuickTake, Pro Video, and more.
Battery:
The Galaxy S20 Ultra will be equipped with the largest battery ever used in a Galaxy S-series smartphone, presumably, it is a 5,000 mAh battery with 45W fast charging. The Galaxy S20+ will come with a 4,500mAh battery and the Galaxy S20 will receive a 4,000 mAh battery.
RAM, Storage, and Processor:
All three Galaxy S20 variant will have a minimum of 12GB RAM and confirmed to have an ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint sensor. The Galaxy S20 Ultra will support up to 16GB of RAM, 128GB/256GB/512GB of storage (will support up to 1TB storage with microSD card).
In Europe and Korea, the new models will be powered by the Exynos 990 chipset, a 7nm processor with dual-core Gen 2 NPU announced in October during the Samsung Tech Day 2019 event in Silicon Valley. In the US, the device will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset.
Software:
The Galaxy S20 series will run One UI 2.1 (Android 10) out of the box. There will be a new feature, Samsung Quick Share. This feature is very similar to Apple’s AirDrop. With this feature, you can transfer the files between different Galaxy devices. Of course, there will be more features we don’t know about yet.
Accessories:
As the Galaxy Note 10, the Galaxy S20 series will come with the same AKG headphones with a USB Type-C connector. There will be a Samsung Protective Standing case, LED View Cover, Clear View Cover, leather case, and silicon case.
Samsung will be launching the new Galaxy Buds+ at the event alongside the Galaxy S20 series. The price of the Galaxy Buds+ will be $149.99. In some regions, the Galaxy S20 and S20+ pre-orders come with a free Galaxy Buds+.
Price and Release Date:
The latest leaked revealed the US prices, the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra will start from $999, $1,199 and $1,399 respectively.
According to previously leaked pricing information for all three phones. Here’s what we’re expecting:
- Galaxy S20 4G — €899
- Galaxy S20 5G — €999
- Galaxy S20+ 5G — €1099
- Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G — €1349 – €1549
Just for comparison, here’s the pricing of the Galaxy S10 series:
- Galaxy S10e — From $750
- Galaxy S10 — From $900
- Galaxy S10+ — From $1000
- Galaxy S10 5G — From $1300
Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S20 series on February 11 at the Samsung Unpacked 2020 event in San Francisco. Reservations are also now live on the Samsung website for the Galaxy S20 series smartphones.
