Samsung fueled its latest and most prominent lineup – Galaxy S24 with several upgraded capabilities and one among them is the higher PWM refresh rate. PWM refresh rate is a mechanism used on OLED screens to make them appear brighter or dimmer, to keep your eyes safe, and to reduce the strain.
According to the details, all three models of the latest flagship lineup including Samsung Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra offer a higher PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) refresh rate of 492Hz which is double the PWM refresh rate of the screens on the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 Ultra, which is 240Hz.
However, Samsung has never highlighted this ability of smartphones, but in our opinion, it’s worth noting. Because the excessive use of smartphones results in a high strain, so to keep the user’s eye protected, and reduce the strain in these busy schedules, this is a big move taken by the Korean tech giant.

To be mentioned, OLED screens can get dimmer than LCD screens, they can only get there up to a certain point, and here PWM fills the gap. This results in a banding effect, which is usually visible on low brightness levels. However, on some phones, the banding can appear even at high brightness settings.
