The ColorOS 12 has been officially released recently. OnePlus has also announced an upgrade public test plan for its smartphones. Many phones including the OnePlus 8 series will receive OTA updates in the first half of 2022.

According to the OnePlus community manager, the ColorOS 12 testing for OnePlus devices is currently only possible from HydrogenOS 11.
The OnePlus 8 series cannot be changed from the early adopter ColorOS 11 to ColorOS 12, and users who have updated the early adopter version need to go back to HydrogenOS and then perform an OTA upgrade process.
The COO of OnePlus, previously stated that due to the difficulty of data compatibility and the huge workload of Hydrogen OS 11 to ColorOS 12, the important data of users can be retained as much as possible, and the most convenient way to upgrade through OTA.
