On this basis, Realme also hopes to manufacture notebooks and tablets locally in India from early 2023 and has held discussions with three potential partners. In an interview with Economic Times, Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth said:

We have invested Rs 267 crore in KHY to produce a class of products, but the investment will continue as Realme brings more products to the market. For example, by the end of 2022, we will bring 6-8 new products to this category. All manufacturing can be done locally, with additional investments based on actual needs.

In addition, the investment is expected to add more than 1,000 jobs in the future by expanding the manufacturing ecosystem in India. Madhav Sheth added that the goal is to have local production of 300,000 audio devices by the end of the year, with 3.5 million capacity from partners across various categories.

The company has also seen significant growth in the true wireless (TWS) audio segment thanks to its superior price/performance ratio.

As for smartwatches, he said consumers are focusing more on second screens beyond health/fitness needs, which in turn is driving the growth of this segment. Realme is deciding to expand its manufacturing ecosystem in India while evaluating cooperation with more partners.

In terms of 5G, the executive believes that the auction announcement has released a positive signal to the Indian market, and subsequent brands will surely compete more fiercely on 5G cost-effective models. Nearly half of Realme’s mobile phone portfolio in India will support 5G. In the price segment of 15,000 rupees, 5G accounts for as high as 90%.

Going forward, the brand will focus on launching more 5G smartphones in the Rs 10,000-15,000 price range rather than cost-effective 4G models.
