The importance of embedding AI into products has recently been highlighted in a connected world as endpoint workload demands increase. Low latency and high security are essential for IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things), consumer electronics, automotive, and other embedded applications that require intelligent decision-making based on machine learning to be physically closer to the data source.
Working with partners, Renesas continues to provide development environments and software to embed AI into its low-power, highly secure MCU (microcontroller) and MPU (microprocessor) products. The acquisition of Reality AI enables Renesas to expand its in-house capabilities to provide comprehensive and highly optimized endpoint solutions from both a hardware and software perspective. This enables system developers to implement endpoint intelligence across a wide range of IIoT, consumer electronics, and automotive applications.
Reality AI’s flagship Reality AI Tools is a software environment built to support the entire product development lifecycle, providing analytics from non-visual sensor data. Inference-based AI solutions can run in a variety of endpoint AI applications. An example of the company’s vast and strong expertise is the use of artificial intelligence-built sensors for industrial anomaly detection and automotive voice recognition.
Combining these technologies with Renesas’ MCU and MPU products designed to provide best-in-class AI inference and signal processing capabilities will help developers seamlessly apply advanced machine learning and signal processing to complex problems.
In addition to expanding embedded AI technology, key IP, software, and tools, the acquisition will create an AIoT development center of excellence in Maryland by bringing in experts from Reality AI. The move will expand Renesas’ global software development talent pool.
