According to reports, the U.S. electric car giant ordered camera modules for the Semi and Cybertruck as well as the Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y at the end of the first quarter. Samsung Electro-Mechanics, LG Innotek, and some companies from Taiwan participated in the bidding process.

Moreover, Tesla’s Cybertruck camera module orders last year were also handed over to Samsung Electro-Mechanics. The company will supply components to Tesla’s Shanghai and Berlin Gigafactories. LG Innotek is still the largest camera module supplier on Tesla’s system, but the winning bid will allow Samsung Electro-Mechanics to close its gap.

In addition, Samsung Electro-Mechanics is also supplying camera modules for smartphones, but the products used in electric vehicles have higher value, so the company will further increase profits. According to reports, there are eight camera modules in the Tesla electric car. And car camera modules are more expensive than camera modules used in smartphones, and more camera modules are used per vehicle.
