Sony may release PS5 Pro controller with removable analog sticks

Posted on

Sony PlayStation players may soon have a premium gamepad comparable to Microsoft’s Xbox Elite elite series, offering customizable parts, rear paddles, and more.

In a new report, revealer Tom Henderson pointed out that the new handle product, known internally as the “PlayStation 5 Pro Controller”, has a removable analog joystick unit for quickly completing the entire pressing action without having to keep squeezing it all the time.

Trigger stops, new handles (possibly moving), and more key customization with paddles on the back. The reported feature suite sounds a lot like what Microsoft’s Xbox Elite series controllers offer, but the biggest difference is the analog sticks.

On the Microsoft Xbox, the stick has a replaceable top and adjustable tension, but on the Sony PlayStation end, the entire stick unit is said to be replaceable. If the reports are true, the system will allow customers to simply replace defective or drift-affected modules with new thumbstick units without having to buy a whole new handle.

There are also major improvements on the software front, but the report doesn’t specify. Tom Henderson also predicts that Sony will launch “several new pieces of hardware” by July, including this Pro controller or something else entirely different.
