Gen 6 Wellness Edition is last wearable as Fossil plans to quit in smartwatch race

Fossil is one of the reputed names in the smartwatch market, but due to some circumstances, the manufacturer has decided to quit the smartwatch race. Yes, you read it right, Fossil has officially confirmed that it will not be making any more smartwatches based on Google’s Wear OS, or any other software.

As per the information, Fossi announced that it would leave the smartwatch business and redirect resources to its less-smart goods instead. To be mentioned, the company has been one of the most prolific makers of Wear OS smartwatches over the years, and its absence will leave a large gap in the market.

Fossil has been making smartwatches based on Wear OS for several years but a few years back the glory of Samsung Galaxy Watch and Pixel Watch has overshadowed it. The company’s last Wear OS release was the Fossil Gen 6 Wellness Edition, and it seems that it will be the last Fossil smartwatch, as the firm has planned to quit.

Accordingly,  Fossil will continue to support its existing smartwatches for the next few years. Below you can check what the Fossil spokesperson Amanda Castelli tells The Verge:

  • As the smartwatch landscape has evolved significantly over the past few years, we have made the strategic decision to exit the smartwatch business. Fossil Group is redirecting resources to support our core strength and the core segments of our business that continue to provide strong growth opportunities for us: designing and distributing exciting traditional watches, jewelry, and leather goods under our own as well as licensed brand names.
