Google is planning to introduce the Huawei EROFS file system format for Android 13. The EROFS (Enhanced Read-Only File System) will help the system to become a faster means for updates download as well as an efficient place for storage.

Huawei EROFS File System
Introduced in 2018, EROFS first stepped into Linux Kernel with build number 4.14. In comparison to other file system formats, Huawei-developed EROFS keenly focused on the performance of the device. Meanwhile, it also efficiently manages the storage space by saving it as much as possible.
EROFS – A potential decision for Android 13
Although EROFS has been a helpful file system format, Google has finally decided to feature it for the Android 13 devices. The reason for this late step is the kernel version requirement. So far, Android devices were running on older versions of the Linux kernel, while EROFS tends to rely on fresh updates.
Since EROFS is capable of better read/write performance in comparison to other file systems, Google opted to use it. Thus, Android 13 devices will flourish with a faster performance grade as well as extra savings on the storage space.
Although, the new file system will only approach those devices that will launch with the Android 13 system. Moreover, the devices that have GMS (Google Mobile Services) facility. This also hints that AOSP remains stagnant for the new file system at the moment.
