Apple and Google become referees in music app competition, says Spotify

Spotify CEO – Daniel Ek is trying to persuade the UK authorities to pass a bill that can regulate fair competition in the music streaming app market and eliminate the dominance of some large tech players such as Apple and Google.

In a recent interview with the Financial Times, Spotify CEO said that Apple and Google act as referees in the music streaming app contest but unlike other referees, they also play in the game which is quite insane as well as not good for the competition.

Moreover, these firms form their own rules which often ruins the overall competition purpose. At some point, they also control how billions of consumers access the internet which is quite insane.

Hence, Ek wants the UK to pass the bill and ensure that being a referee in the digital market can’t also be the player. The new bill will count in the Digital Markets, Competition, and Consumers Bill (DMCC) and has started going through development stages.
