Apple bows down to China, requires new check on apps before adding in App Store
Apple is going through tough times in China and requiring new apps to receive a license from the Chinese authorities before adding them to the App Store. The enforcement is due to new app laws that the government announced recently.
The story began in August when China forged app developers saying that new applications must be based in the country or should have a partner in the country. A major reason behind this regulation is privacy issues for users’ personal data.
As a result, Apple has started obeying China and its rules for its newly developed Apps and requires developers to submit their Internet Content Provider (ICP) before putting the apps in the App Store. China gave developers a grace period to comply, but the period ended in September 2023 for new apps. Existing apps have until March 2024.
