Apple officially released iOS 12.5.5, fixes major zero-day security vulnerabilities

Apple today pushed the iOS 12.5.5 update (internal version number: 16H62) to iPhone and iPad users, which is suitable for older iPhones and iPads that cannot run the latest iOS 15.

According to Apple’s release notes, this is a security update that fixes vulnerabilities in CoreGraphics, WebKit, and XNU. Apple said it has received reports indicating that these vulnerabilities may be exploited by attackers, so devices still running iOS 12 should be updated immediately.

According to Bleeping Computer, at least one vulnerability may be used to deploy NSO Pegasus spyware on controlled devices.

Apple officially announced a list of devices that can upgrade iOS 15 and iPadOS 15. The following devices can’t upgrade to iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 :

  • iPhone 5s
  • iPhone 6
  • iPhone 6 Plus
  • iPod touch 6
  • Original iPad Air
  • iPad mini 2
  • iPad mini 3
