Apple reportedly placed orders for M2 chip with TSMC

Earlier, it was reported that Apple is preparing a more powerful “M2″ chip for the redesigned MacBook Pro model. Apple’s next-generation custom silicon chip for Mac temporarily called the “M2” chip, entered production in April.

The source also said that these processors will take at least three months to produce, and may start shipping to Apple as early as July for timely use in MacBook Pro. The M2 chip is expected to bring major performance improvements to upcoming MacBook Pro models.

The M1 chip produced by Apple supplier TSMC made its debut in the Mac mini, MacBook Air, and 13-inch MacBook Pro at the end of last year. Compared with the Intel chip is replaced, it brought considerable performance improvements and battery efficiency.

Apple said that the M1 chip has an 8-core CPU, up to 8-core GPU, 16-core neural engine, unified memory architecture, etc. The system performance has increased by 3.5 times, the graphics performance has increased by 6 times, the machine learning has increased by 15 times, and the battery Battery life is 2 times longer than the previous generation Mac.

It is expected that the next generation of chips will have a similar performance leap. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman earlier stated that Apple is developing a higher-end Apple Silicon chip, which is expected to “much better than” the performance of the latest Mac still equipped with Intel chips.

Expectations are “more ambitious.” Gurman said the new chip will be “several times faster” than the chips currently used by Apple in high-end Intel machines.

He also said that Apple’s next-generation chip will be an iteration of the M1 chip, with a 10-core CPU, 8 high-performance cores, and 2 energy-saving cores, and 16-core or 32-core GPUs are available.

The next generation of Apple Silicon chips will also support up to 64GB of memory, while the current maximum is 16GB. This will be consistent with the current Intel-based 16-inch MacBook Pro, which can provide up to 64GB of memory. It is said that the new chip also supports additional Thunderbolt ports to enhance connectivity.

It is rumored that the new 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will adopt a new design, with brighter screens, higher contrast, the elimination of the Touch Bar, more ports, and MagSafe magnetic connectors for charging.

It is expected that the new MacBook Pro model with the next-generation Apple Silicon chip will be launched in the second half of 2021, and it may be launched as soon as this summer or even next week at WWDC21.
