In the latest issue of the Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said that Apple is developing at least two iMac models that may use the ” M3 ” series of chips. According to Gurman, Apple could launch an upgraded 24-inch iMac with a standard M3 chip in 2023, and continue to develop high-end iMac models:
I still believe that Apple is working on a large-screen iMac aimed at the professional market. I think this model will use M3 series chips, maybe M3 Pro or M3 Max. For users who care about desktop space, I don’t think the combination of Mac Studio or Mac mini plus Studio Display will affect the iMac market.

In March 2021, Apple discontinued the iMac Pro and discontinued the Intel-based 27-inch version of the iMac in March 2022. Since then, the 24-inch iMac with the M1 chip has become the only iMac on sale.
Instead of a 24-inch iMac with an M2 chip, Gurman’s predictions on Apple’s product roadmap jumped straight to the M3 chip. Also, onboard the M3 are an updated 13-inch MacBook Air, a new 15-inch MacBook Air, and possibly a new 12-inch laptop.
Gurman previously said that the new high-end iMac “isn’t coming out anytime soon,” and combined with the M3 chip forecast, it may not see new products until 2023. The M3 series chips are expected to be based on TSMC’s 3nm technology, which will be more energy efficient than the M1 and M2 chips using the 5nm process.
