Beware! This new malware can steal your crucial information and spreads through contacts

Security researchers have discovered a new type of Malware on Android smartphones, designed to steal your personal information such as bank details and passwords. Not only this but it is also spread through the victim’s contacts.

This malware is downloaded through phishing links known as FluBot, which can be disguised as a text message from the delivery company asking users to click a link to track package delivery.

This fake phishing link installs unwanted software or it may be malware-stealing malware on Android smartphones.

EFFECTS OF THIS VIRUS:

If this malware is somehow installed on the victim’s devices, it’s able to access the contact information and sends messages to other contacts, and spreads further.

Once installed, it starts to steal the information including the bank details, passwords, contacts, virtual account details and uses them to harm the victim.

The UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has released security guidance to identify and remove FluBot malware. On the other hand network providers including Three and Vodafone have also issued warnings to users over the text message attacks.

It has also warned victims, who receive a fake text message not to click the link in the message or install any apps if prompted. Instead, they’re urged to forward the message to 7726 which is a free spam-reporting service led by smartphone companies – then to delete the message.

Meanwhile, people who’ve already clicked the link and downloaded the applications are recommended to not log in to any online account to put a pause on the attack.

HOW TO AVOID:

When it comes to more technical preventions, users are recommended to download applications from the authorized app store, and keeping all their systems patched and updated. And be aware of not clicking any unnecessary app, while downloading from third-party stores.
