On 28 October, 2021, Facebook‘s CEO Mark Zukerberg has announced that that the company’s new name will be Meta at the company’s connect event. The word “meta” comes from the Greek word meaning “beyond”, which symbolizes that there is always more to build, and there is always a next chapter to the story.

“From now on, we will be metaverse-first, not Facebook-first. That means that over time you won’t need a Facebook account to use our other services. As our new brand starts showing up in our products, I hope people around the world come to know the Meta brand and the future we stand for”, Zuckerberg said.
Facebook is a social networking platform, founded in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg. It can be accessed from devices with Internet connectivity, such as personal computers, tablets and smartphones. This platform allows users to create a profile revealing information about themselves, to post text, photos, multimedia, and more.
Previously, it was rumored that the Facebook CEO was planning to change the name of Facebook in order to shift its focus on building the “metaverse”. This change is not expected to affect the name of the Facebook service itself, similar to the creation of Alphabet as Google’s parent company in 2015.
