BYD Auto will start selling lithium batteries for vehicles to other companies as early as the second half of this year. Li Yunfei, general manager of BYD’s brand and public relations division, stated in an interview with the media that at present, it is not ruled out that Fudi battery business will be listed separately to promote business expansion.
Allegedly, BYD’s related changes also mean that they have made an important turn in their sales policies, and BYD batteries previously seemed to be only available to relate joint ventures and commercial vehicle makers and rarely sold on a large scale.
BYD’s move is to expand the scale of its battery manufacturing business by providing products to other companies, thereby enhancing procurement competitiveness and further improving production efficiency.
Additionally, it is reported that BYD’s external supply of onboard lithium-ion batteries will come from BYD’s subsidiary Ferdi Battery, but other details are still unclear. The specific buyers, sales prices, and targets are unclear.
The current industry’s largest battery supplier is undoubtedly from CATL, followed by LG Chem, followed by makers like Panasonic, BYD, and Samsung SDI. It is believed that BYD’s move will help it increase its market influence.
