China’s smartphone market shipments fell 4% YoY in Q3, 2021: SA
Strategy Analytics has recently released China’s smartphone shipments results for the third quarter of this year. The reports show that in Q3 2021, smartphone shipments in the Chinese market were 80.1 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 4%. Economic uncertainty, shortage of parts, and extension of replacement cycles continue to pose challenges to the market.
In this quarter, Vivo maintained its leading position in China. Its smartphone shipments were 18 million units, a year-on-year increase of 21%. Vivo can be said to have the most extensive product portfolio in China, which has promoted the growth of the manufacturer in the domestic market. Vivo is currently further expanding its product portfolio, launching a new T-series smartphone in October, targeting male users in the mid-range market.

Oppo (including OnePlus) followed closely with shipments in China of 17 million units, a year-on-year increase of 15%. Oppo slowed down its release cycle in Q3 of 2021 and deepened its integration with OnePlus, especially with regard to ColorOS.
Honor ranks third in the Chinese smartphone market. The company shipped 14 million smartphones in the quarter, a year-on-year increase of 109%. Honor is clearly rebounding strongly. With the improvement of chip component supply and the strengthening of product portfolio, the tech is grabbing market share from other Android manufacturers.
Moreover, Xiaomi and Apple ranked fourth and fifth with 11 million and 10 million units shipped respectively. Xiaomi’s shipments fell by 2% year-on-year due to increased competition in the domestic market. Apple’s new models are very popular among Chinese consumers, but they are suffering from a shortage of components.
