On the morning of October 26, Apple iOS/iPad OS 15.1 was officially released (build number: 19B74), iOS 15.1. It added a simulcast sharing function, bringing a new sharing experience to friends and relatives in FaceTime calls.
The update also added the ability to shoot ProRes video on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, introduced a verifiable COVID-19 vaccination card type in Apple Wallet, and included other features and bug fixes for the iPhone.

Some online users reported that after upgrading to the official version of iOS 15.1, the compass application of the iPhone has canceled the display of altitude, longitude, and latitude information.
However, this is not entirely true. The compass on some users’ iPhones still supports the display of altitude and latitude and longitude information. The watchOS 8.1 compass is temporarily unaffected on the Apple Watch. It is not clear whether the issue was intentionally removed by Apple or a bug.
Does the compass of your iPhone still display altitude, longitude, and latitude? According to the compass manual display on the iPhone on Apple’s official website, the “Compass” app in iOS 15 will display the direction, current location, and altitude pointed to by the iPhone.
View bearing, coordinates, and altitude
The bearing, coordinates, and altitude are displayed at the bottom of the screen.
- Hold the iPhone horizontally to align the crosshairs with the center of the compass to get an accurate bearing.
- To lock the current direction, tap the compass dial.
A red band is displayed when it deviates.
To open the location in Maps, tap the coordinates at the bottom of the screen.
Allow “compass” to access location
If “Compass” cannot see your location, please make sure you have turned on “Location Services”.
- Go to “Settings”> “Privacy”> “Location Services” and turn on “Location Services”.
- Tap “Compass”, and then tap “While Using App.”
Do note that the accuracy of the compass may be affected by magnetic objects or environmental interference; even the magnets in the iPhone EarPods can cause deviations. The digital compass can only be used for basic navigation assistance. Do not use it to determine the precise location, proximity, distance, or direction.
