As part of the ongoing litigation with Apple, Joe Craner, VP of Epic Games, commented on the release of Fortnite on the xCloud cloud service.
Cloud streaming service xCloud is owned by Microsoft. The abandonment of Fortnite’s shareware battle royale is due to Epic Games’ view of the service as a competitor in the PC market.
The records in the court documents look like Kreiner continued his speech and explained the reason for this decision. However, according to The Verge, the next part of Kreiner’s interrogation was edited. At the moment, it is not clear how the development of the cloud service could interfere with Epic Games’ plans.

The Verge editor Tom Warren suggests Epic Games wants to install its own payment system. However, the xCloud platform is dominated by Microsoft – all operations are controlled by the company.
Fortnite has previously appeared on the Geforce Now cloud service. Its important difference from xCloud is that all revenue from game purchases or microtransactions goes back to Epic Games, not Nvidia.
The VP of Epic Games, in a commentary, admitted that Epic Games did not even try to negotiate with Microsoft about using the payment platform and the Xbox store.
