EU asks users whether Apple and Microsoft should adopt new DMA rules
EU antitrust regulators are asking users whether Apple iMessage, and Microsoft Bing, and Edge apps should be subject to new DMA (Digital Market Act) rules. The authority began the investigation on this matter in September after the companies contested the EU competition labeling these services as core platforms.
According to the information, the new EU-DMA rules demand allowance for third-party apps or app stores in Apple and Microsoft services. This step will ease to switch from default apps to others for consumers.
On the other hand, the investigators are determining the importance of iMessage and other competing messaging services for Apple. The details further hint that the EU will wrap up this investigation within five months – probably January or February 2024.
