Facebook is working on a new security feature to unlock the Messenger app. The Facebook Messenger app could soon add Face ID app lock to protect your conversations.
According to a tweet from Jane Manchun Wong:
“Facebook Messenger is working on “Face ID” app lock. It can be enabled right after the user leave Messenger or after a duration. It seems Face ID will NOT be sent to, or stored by Facebook’s servers, according to the description shown in the screenshot”

In the attached screenshot (above), the app will have the option to use the Face ID lock after they leave the messenger, after 1 minute, after 15 minutes, or even after 1 hour. Additionally, the Face ID data will not be sent to or stored by Facebook.
The Facebook Messenger app currently depends on the iPhone’s security protections to keep conversation secure and private. Anyone with the passcode can get access to your messages.
Wong stated that the above screenshot is from the Android version of the Messenger app and it also has a typo (as it is in the early stages of development).
Note: There’s no official word from Facebook about this new feature. It means there’s no guarantee when this feature will come to the stable Messenger app.
