Samsung is set to bring major updates to its Bixby assistant and experiment with a new Galaxy S25 Slim model. The Galaxy S25 series, expected to launch early next year, will be the first to showcase the upgraded Bixby globally, while the Slim model may arrive in limited quantities by mid-2025.
Bixby Assistant Gets Smarter with Galaxy S25
Currently, Samsung’s enhanced Bixby assistant is available only on the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition (W25) and W25 Flip in China. This version of Bixby is smarter, capable of pulling more app data, offering advanced interactive guides, and understanding natural language even better.
Reports suggest this exclusive Bixby upgrade won’t stay in China for long. According to industry insiders and a report from Korea, the Galaxy S25 series will be the first to bring the new Bixby features worldwide.
What makes this upgrade significant is the use of powerful AI technologies. Samsung is reportedly combining AI engines like ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and its own Gauss AI system (unveiled recently with multimodal capabilities).
Leakers have hinted that the next-gen Bixby will be a key selling point of the Galaxy S25 series.
Galaxy S25 Series Launch Date
The Galaxy S25 series, which includes the standard S25, S25 Plus, and S25 Ultra models, is expected to launch at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event on January 22, 2025.
Galaxy S25 Slim: A New Design Experiment
Samsung is also reportedly working on a new Galaxy S25 Slim model, which may hit the market by Q2 2025. However, Samsung plans to produce only 3 million units of this model as a test to see how customers react to the unique design.
The Galaxy S25 Slim is expected to feature a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED display with QHD+ resolution (1440 x 3120 pixels) and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, similar to the Galaxy S25 Plus. The display size is technically 6.66 inches but will be marketed as 6.7 inches.
Key Specs of the Galaxy S25 Slim:
- Display Size: 6.7 inches (6.66 inches technically)
- Display Type: Dynamic AMOLED
- Resolution: QHD+ (1440 x 3120 pixels)
- Refresh Rate: 120Hz
According to sources, the standout feature of the Slim model is its design. Samsung has reworked the internal layout to optimize thickness, which is challenging due to the battery’s size and structure. An insider explained that redesigning the phone’s internal components is central to achieving its thin form factor.
Release Timeline
- The Galaxy S25 series will be unveiled in January 2025.
- The Galaxy S25 Slim model could launch separately in Q2 2025.
- Samsung aims to test this new design before scaling up production.
With the new foldables also expected in Q3 2025, Samsung is carefully positioning the Slim model to cater to a unique market segment. If successful, it could pave the way for future slim devices.
