Key Points:
- Gemini AI assistant will soon be available on earbuds.
- August 2024 update for Pixel Watch includes new security patches.
- Updates will roll out gradually based on carrier and device.
Google is expanding its Gemini AI assistant beyond phones and the web. Soon, you’ll be able to use “Gemini on earbuds.”
Earlier this year, after launching on smartphones, the “Gemini mobile app” aimed to bring its features to headphones. Now, the latest Google app (version 15.31) includes a string indicating you can “Talk to Gemini on earbuds.” There’s also a notification text: “Your new AI assistant is on headphones.”
This update might coincide with the upcoming Pixel Buds Pro 2, expected next month. However, it’s not yet clear if existing Assistant headphones will receive Gemini.
Google has already announced that Gemini will be available on the Pixel Tablet this summer. The latest beta update includes a message: “Gemini is a new AI assistant on your tablet. Get help learning in new ways, planning events, writing thank you notes, and more.” Some features, like Extensions, are still not available in Live mode.
In other news, Google is releasing the latest update for the Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 with the August 2024 security patch. Like last month, this update arrives in the afternoon, ahead of the phone and tablet updates.
The Pixel Watch now has the “August 5, 2024” security patch level. The build number for all models is TWD9.240805.001.A2, based on Wear OS 4. The rollout will happen over the next week in phases, depending on the carrier and device. Users will receive a notification on their watch once the update is available.
To download the update, you can tap the “Your watch is up to date” screen (Settings > System > System updates) multiple times. For faster updates, disable Bluetooth and enable Wi-Fi. OTA images are available online.
