God of War Ragnarok isn’t Santa Monica’s only project, developers working on fantasy world game

The site of Sony Santa Monica, responsible for the God of War series, has spotted a developer vacancy for a fantastic new game.

A senior concept artist is needed to create the characters in the studio’s unannounced game. It will help to implement “character models, visual language and the rules of the fantasy world.” The mentioned vacancy fragment indicates that Santa Monica is preparing a universe of its own.

The candidate must have the skills to create “realistic and believable” characters, monsters, and environmental elements. More details were not disclosed.

The authors of God of War are currently working on a sequel to Kratos’ adventures, tentatively titled Ragnarok. The new game is the second project, which is being created in parallel.

For the first time, they started talking about the classified game in January when the studio was looking for an “experienced art director.” A few more employees were needed last month.

Requirements

  • Strong command of foundation art skills (drawing, painting and rendering, material indication, perspective, composition, color theory, design, anatomy, and 2d, and 3d design techniques)
  • Strong design skills with the ability to render realistic believable fantasy-based characters, creatures, and props using contemporary industry-standard tools and techniques.
  • Strong ideation, brainstorming, and documentation skills
  • Proficiency in Photoshop with an emphasis on drawing, painting, and image-making. 3D modeling and sculpting skills are not required but are a plus
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills. This entails collaborating with the Production group to coordinate task lists to ensure assignments are progressing well according to schedules, objectives, and overall project goals
  • Familiarity with video game product development and the fundamentals of 3D packages
  • Good communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts or relevant curriculum or equivalent skillset
  • Minimum 3 years of AAA video game platform experience with two or more published titles is desirable
