Google prompts new Ad privacy settings on Android devices

Posted on

Google has started prompting new Ad Privacy settings for more Android devices, which is part of Privacy Sandbox functionality. The manufacturer initiated the beta activity related to this feature earlier this year. In the current scenario, the OEM is bringing this facility to more users.

To those who are unaware, Privacy Sandbox lets apps on your phone show relevant ads more privately. Starting in May, Google is now pushing off this capability to more Android users with all-new Ad Privacy settings. This feature comes into action without using a cross-app, device identifier (Ad ID), with your interests saved on-device.

Users running Android 13 on a Pixel handset can access this functionality via Settings > Security & Privacy > More privacy settings. Here you will find three major settings:

Ad topics: Topics of interest are based on the apps you’ve used recently, and are used by apps to show you personalized ads.

App-suggested ads: Apps you use can determine what you like and then suggest ads on other apps.

Ad measurement: Apps and advertisers can request information from Android that helps them measure the performance of their ads.

These features are rolling out gradually from Google Play Services and will soon reach other Android users.
