Key Points:
- Improved Assistant: Google Assistant will get smarter with Gemini updates, making it more useful on Nest devices.
- Better Interactions: New features will allow more natural conversations and easier access to media and home controls.
- Enhanced Security: Nest cameras will offer detailed insights and better search functions using Gemini technology.
Google Assistant is set to get a major upgrade on Nest devices thanks to new Gemini updates. This enhancement aims to improve how Google Assistant works with smart home devices like speakers and displays, focusing on making interactions smoother and more intuitive.
What’s New with Google Assistant?
- Smarter Conversations: The updated Assistant will understand and respond to more natural, conversational questions. For example, you can ask, “Is Pluto a planet?” and then follow up with, “Could they change their minds again?” without needing to be precise with your wording.
- Enhanced Features: Gemini will improve how the Assistant handles tasks like playing media or setting timers. You can now ask, “Play that song Beyonce performed with the Chicks at the CMAs,” and it will understand you better. It also allows you to have fun with commands, like getting help to argue that “Crocs are extremely cool — and mention sport mode.”
- Better Voices: The new update will also bring more natural and warmer voices to Google Assistant, making interactions feel more human.
Improvements in Nest Devices:
- Smarter Cameras: Nest cameras will get a boost with Gemini’s capabilities. Instead of just detecting motion, they will recognize specific activities, like your dog digging in the garden, and show these details in the Google Home app. This will make security monitoring more useful.
- Enhanced Search: The Google Home app will now offer improved search functions for camera footage. You can ask, “Did the kids leave their bikes in the driveway?” and it will provide a summary of relevant events. You can also search for other specific events, like deliveries or pet activities.
- Simplified Automation: With Gemini, setting up home automation will be easier. You can simply ask, “Lock the doors and turn off all the lights at bedtime,” and the system will handle it for you. This feature aims to make managing your smart home more straightforward and intuitive.
These updates will first be available to Nest Aware subscribers in a Preview Program later this year, with a broader rollout planned for 2025. Google is excited about how these enhancements will make home experiences smarter and more efficient while ensuring user privacy and security.
