Google Gmail’s Material You bottom bar gets reduced with new update
Previously, in some countries, the new Google design language was widely promoted in Gmail for Android. As part of this release, Google has significantly lowered the Material You bottom bar in Gmail.

The Material You elements after in first-party apps (especially the Workspace client) includes a tablet-shaped search field, a square FAB, and a tall bottom bar, and it’s also using a pill shape index form to highlight that tab.
The new navigation feature was applied when the rebuild first arrived in Gmail but has now been minified as part of a wider version. The space is evenly removed from the top and bottom, and between icons and text labels.
Due to this limitation, you will no longer see an email, but the compose button will be slightly reduced. Currently, the click/ripple animation has been deprecated. The end result is that the lower bar is not much different from the previous one. Although the long UI is designed for visual acuity, it does not change the feeling of using and navigating the application.
Today’s Gmail is the only Material You app that runs its bar at the bottom. Google Phone, Drive, and Photos still retain tall items, otherwise, the redesign would be widely used. In fact, it’s still too early to say whether Google has changed its view of the long-bottom column after the actual response.
