Google Meet’s AI note-taking and simplified nest thermostat controls: new updates coming soon

Top 3 Key Points:

  1. Google Meet’s AI “Take Notes for Me” is launching soon, capturing meeting notes automatically.
  2. Nest Thermostat controls in Google Home are becoming more user-friendly with a redesigned interface.
  3. The new Nest Learning Thermostat is set to be available for purchase on August 20.

Google is rolling out a new AI-powered feature for Google Meet called “Take Notes for Me.” This tool allows users to automatically take notes during video meetings, making it easier to keep track of discussions and action items. Initially tested under Google Workspace Labs, this feature will soon be available to users with specific Google Workspace add-ons like the Gemini Enterprise, Gemini Education Premium, and AI Meetings & Messaging.

With this feature, users can automatically capture meeting notes, share them via Google Docs, catch up on missed content if they join a meeting late, and create action items for attendees. After the meeting, a summary of the notes and action items is sent to the meeting organizer and the user who activated the feature. The AI note-taking tool is enabled by default, and administrators can manage its settings through the Google Admin console. The feature will initially support English and be available on desktop or laptop devices starting August 13.

In addition to this, Google is simplifying controls for Nest Thermostats within the Google Home app. The new interface is designed to be more intuitive, with large, easy-to-use buttons and better organization of settings. The changes aim to make it easier to adjust the temperature and manage your thermostat without needing to navigate multiple screens.

Google’s latest Nest Learning Thermostat, the 4th generation model, features a sleek, modern design with a domed display and slimmer bezels, resembling a large Pixel Watch. The device is currently available for pre-order at $279.99 and will hit stores on August 20. The updated Google Home controls are now available in the Public Preview version of the app and may roll out widely later this month.
