After several years of exposure, Google finally launched Fuchsia OS, a brand new operating system, to the market. The company has confirmed to it that Fuchsia OS will be introduced to the first-generation Nest Hub smart display released in 2018.
There will be no functional changes in the updated Nest Hub, but the underlying system will be changed from the Linux-based Cast OS to Independent Fuchsia OS. Fuchsia OS was exposed in 2016, and it just presented a brand new UI at the beginning, which will be carried in Google smart home devices and Chromebooks.

At the beginning of last year, there were already signs that Fuchsia OS will conduct large-scale internal testing. If the internal testing goes well, Google will bring developers the first Fuchsia OS preview version. At the end of last year, Google also officially opened the project to external developers.
Last month, a Bluetooth list showed that Nest Hub was running “Fuchsia 1.0”. Now, Google has announced that it will push Fuchsia OS to users of the first-generation Nest Hub smart display within a few months, indicating that it is ready to provide services on personal devices.
However, Google officially did not indicate whether Fuchsia OS will replace Cast OS. Maybe this update is just a small-scale attempt of Fuchsia OS in device applications, and it may be carried on other types of devices in the future. After all, Fuchsia OS can support running Android and Linux applications.
