Google releases the final Android 12 Developer Preview 3, public betas to come next

Posted on

Google released the third developer preview version of Android 12 as scheduled. Android 12 is the latest version of its mobile operating system. According to Google’s roadmap, this will be the last developer preview of Android 12 before it enters the beta version.

Usually, this is the first wireless update time we might see for non-developers who want to try it out. Currently, developers still need to flash device images to their supported Pixel devices.

Google pointed out that with the coming of the Beta phase, developers are now starting compatibility testing to ensure that their applications are ready. Currently, Android 12 plans to reach platform stability before August 2021. At that time, all application-oriented functions will be locked and finalized.

What’s new in this Developer preview?

As always, there are many minor adjustments and changes to new features, but this time the focus is that developers can provide new haptic feedback experiences in their apps and new app startup animations.

For developers and users, this new application launch experience may be the most obvious change. The new animation will make the application start at the initial screen where the application icon is displayed, and then into the application itself.

Google explained: “The new experience brings standardized design elements to the app every time you start it, but we also customize it so that the app can maintain its unique brand image.” Developers who are thinking about how to use their own Brands will have a lot of leeways when customizing this splash screen. However, the most basic startup experience is enabled by default.

Rich tactile feedback is also a new feature in this version, which is to provide an immersive and pleasant experience for the game and to provide a sense of attention for productivity.

Other new features in this version include a new call notification template, which is designed to provide users with easier management of incoming and ongoing calls. Google said that these new notifications will be more visible and scannable. In addition, neural network APIs for machine learning workloads have also been improved, and new APIs have been provided to support a wider range of ultra-high-resolution camera sensors.

For Android 12, Google does not support the use of RenderScript API to run computationally intensive tasks and instead supports GPU computing frameworks such as Vulkan and OpenGL.
