Google rolling out ChromeOS 117 – the biggest update for Chromebooks
Google ChromeOS 117 update for Chromebooks is out with an interesting range of features and an ultimate Material You makeover. Users will not only discover new changes but also some useful enhancements that will pen down a new meaning of experience.
To begin with, you will see new tweaks for the Quick Settings. Instead of circular icons, the company has imposed rounded rectangles for the grid. Here, you will find features such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Nearby Share, Cast Screen, and VPN. Meanwhile, Screen Capture and Do Not Disturb reside in smaller cards.
Moving on, Volume Slider gains a progress bar over a simple thin line along with a Live Caption button. Next, there is the brightness and Night Light function with the full panel. Last but not least, the bottom menu includes options for power off, restart, sign out, lock screen, battery information, time, and Settings shortcut.
In terms of system apps, Calendar picks a new look with a Join tab in the video call segments for upcoming meets. It further supports multi-day events. The notifications section also gets a new feed along with a camera and microphone privacy indicator.
Other than that, the Google ChromeOS 117 update brings Dynamic Color theming with the ability to settle in light or dark themes. Adaptive Charging is another benefit that increases the lifespan of the device and improves power consumption.
Other changes include:
- Search GIFs in the emoji picker
- You can now listen to audio from an Android app and the web at the same time without one pausing the other.
- Time-lapse video recording in the Camera app.
- Besides accessing the Clipboard with Launcher+V, it will also appear in the right-click menu as ‘Paste from clipboard’.
- When users search for the status of their OS version, battery, RAM, storage, or CPU, in Launcher, they can now see that information previewed in the search results.
- Improved Vietnamese Telex and VNI input method experience with extra advanced features such as shortcuts. Fixed flexible diacritic insertion issues so the behavior is consistent.
