Google unveils Gemini upgrades and new voice assistant for smart homes

Key Points:

  1. Gemini AI enhances Nest camera capabilities.
  2. Google Home introduces “Help me create” for easy automation.
  3. Limited rollout for Nest Aware subscribers, wider release expected soon.

Google recently revealed exciting updates for its smart home products, focusing on the integration of its new AI model, Gemini. These enhancements promise to make homes smarter, safer, and easier to control.

Advanced Nest Cameras

Nest cameras are getting a significant upgrade with Gemini’s advanced AI capabilities. Instead of just detecting motion, the cameras can now understand and interpret what they see and hear. For example, your camera can recognize that your dog is digging in the garden, not just that there’s movement. This makes the camera clips in the Google Home app much more helpful. There’s also a new search feature to easily find specific events in your camera history.

Google Home’s “Help Me Create” Feature

Google Home is introducing a new feature called “Help me create.” This tool uses Gemini AI to make setting up home automation simpler. Users can describe what they want in plain language, and Google Home will handle the rest. For instance, you can say, “Lock the doors and turn off all the lights at bedtime,” and Google Home will set up the automation for you. This feature aims to make home automation accessible to more people.

Limited Rollout

These improvements will first be available to a select group of Nest Aware subscribers in Public Preview later this year, with a broader release expected afterward.
