Samsung has unfailingly proven that it’s best when it comes to providing updates to its devices. This year, the company made a major switch in its software update policy as it has promised to deliver 4 major Android OS updates along with 5 years of security patch updates.
A bunch of Samsung flagship smartphones, as you probably already know, are eligible for four major Android and One UI updates and up to five years of security patches. Well, now you can also include the company’s new foldable device in this list.
Absolutely, the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 will get four years of Android OS updates. Accordingly, they are also eligible for five years of monthly security patches, which are responsible for a longer life cycle of any device.
How long your Fold 4 or Flip 4 will get updates?
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 comes pre-installed with a large-screen specialized Android 12L-based One UI 4.1.1 OS. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 also comes with One UI 4.1.1 but it relies on regular Android 12 OS.
Both devices will receive their first major operating system update as Android 13-based One UI 5.0, probably in mid-October. Moving ahead, these will be upgraded to Android 16 or whatever Google decided to call its software release in 2026.
In addition to this, the devices will also collect security patches for the next five years, which means 2027. Usually, Samsung offers regular patches but the frequency of these security updates is, obviously, hooked to decline towards the end of this policy.
