Huawei keeps working on technologies to create something innovative and as per the info, this time the company has published a new patent related to a new method for unlocking the smartphone. The patent document is entitled ‘equipment unlocking method and device’ and it was published on June 29, 2021.
Though things are not working for Huawei lately after the US sanctions, even then the company is continuously working on new technologies to gain its position back. The patent was filed on 26 December 2019 in China identified by the publication number CN113051535A.

It’s kind of weird that Huawei wants to use lip movements to unlock smartphones but it has some sense. The new tech will use the biological traits of lips to determine the identity of an individual. Furthermore, it also characterized adaptability, anti-forgetting features, uniqueness, and variability for more support.
The unlocking method consists of a scanning unit and an identifying unit. Just like what we have in the face unlock, the device pre-stores the lip movements to determine the authentication of the individual. Here’s a detailed description of this method mentioned below:
- The scanning unit scans the user’s lip transition picture
- Then it captures the first lip movement from the storage, where was stored, and matches the similarity
- After the scanning, it matches the degree between the first and second lip movements
- Afterward, it determines whether to unlock the device
AS of now, we have several unlocking mechanisms that are already pretty accurate. This includes a biometric scanner, Pin unlock, pattern, and face unlock. While the new lip movements detection technology is still under development and it may or may not show up in the future.
