According to the reports, due to the shortage of semiconductors such as airbag control units (ACU), Hyundai Motor will suspend some production lines at its Ulsan plant. Specifically, the company’s Ulsan Plant 5 (Ulsan Plant 5) No. 52 production line will be discontinued on May 17 and 18, and Ulsan Plant 3 (Ulsan Plant 3) will be discontinued on May 18.

For the same reason, Kia will suspend operations of its Soha Plant 2 (Soha Plant 2) on May 17 and May 18 this year. Due to the long-term supply-demand relationship of automotive semiconductors, Hyundai’s shipment plan has been postponed.
The company sent a letter of apology to customers waiting for shipment in the name of Wonha Yoo, vice president of the domestic business unit. Yoo stated in the letter of apology that the main reason for the delay in vehicle delivery was the insufficient supply of main conductors for vehicles.
Hyundai Motor will look for alternative suppliers for semiconductor procurement and delivery vehicles as soon as possible by simplifying production operations.
Since the second half of 2020, the problem of chip shortage has become the main theme of the semiconductor industry. At present, this problem has had an impact on global automakers, including Hyundai Motors and Kia Motors.
Due to the shortage of electronic components, Hyundai Motor suspended the operation of Ulsan Plant 1 from April 7 to April 14 this year, and on May 6 and May 7 this year. Suspend the operation of Ulsan Plant 4 (Ulsan Plant 4).
