Apple’s upcoming iOS 18.2 update introduces an upgraded Music Recognition feature that takes Shazam’s song identification capabilities to the next level. Now, when your iPhone or iPad identifies a song, it can also save the location where you discovered it, giving you a new way to create “Musical Memories.”
This feature, known as geotagging, links a specific place to a song, allowing users to remember where they first heard a track. For example, you could recall that you first heard a song at a certain cafe, making it a unique way to relive those moments.
To access this, you must enable location services for the Music Recognition feature. When activated, the feature automatically logs the location alongside the song in your history, accessible through the Control Center. However, as of now, the functionality is limited to showing individual song locations, and it doesn’t yet offer a map view showing all the places where you identified songs. This leaves room for potential enhancements in future updates, possibly allowing users to visualize their musical discovery journey on a map.
Additionally, the upcoming iOS 18.2 release is expected in mid-December, following Apple’s typical schedule. The update will include a suite of new features across Apple’s software ecosystem, such as iPadOS, watchOS, and macOS. Users can look forward to enhancements like improved AI tools, new emoji creation options, and Siri integration with ChatGPT, offering a more interactive and customized user experience.
In summary, iOS 18.2 not only enriches how users discover music but also adds a layer of nostalgia by allowing them to revisit their favorite songs and places simultaneously.
