iOS 18: Customize Your Lock Screen Buttons

Apple is introducing a new feature in iOS 18, currently in beta, allowing iPhone users to customize the flashlight and camera buttons on the Lock Screen. These buttons, which have been a permanent fixture since iOS 11, can now be swapped out for more useful options or removed entirely.

With the upcoming iOS 18 update, the Lock Screen buttons can be replaced with any feature available in the Control Center. This means you can set shortcuts for system functions like Dark Mode, Airplane Mode, or the Calculator, as well as your favorite Shortcuts. Apple is also allowing third-party app icons to be added to the Control Center, expanding the customization possibilities even further.

How to Customize Your Lock Screen in iOS 18:

  1. Access Lock Screen Customization: After authenticating with Face ID or Touch ID, press and hold the Lock Screen.
  2. Remove Existing Buttons: Tap “Customize,” then select “Lock Screen.” Tap the “-” icon to remove the current flashlight or camera buttons.
  3. Add New Buttons: Tap the “+” button to choose a new control from the available options. You can repeat this step to customize the second Lock Screen button.
  4. Save Changes: Tap “Done” in the top-right corner to confirm your changes.

If you decide to remove the camera button, you can still access the Camera app quickly by swiping left on the Lock Screen.
