iPhone 17: 24MP front camera upgrade rumored

Key Points:

  • All iPhone 17 models are rumored to have 24MP front cameras.
  • A significant upgrade from the current 12MP front cameras.
  • Expected to launch in September 2025.

All four iPhone 17 models set to launch next year are rumored to feature a 24-megapixel front camera, according to Apple analyst Jeff Pu.

In a research note for investment bank Haitong, shared with MacRumors, Pu detailed that the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Slim, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max will all come with a 24-megapixel front camera with six plastic lens elements. Currently, the iPhone 15 models have a 12-megapixel front camera with five plastic lens elements.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had previously mentioned in January that at least one iPhone 17 model would have this upgraded camera, making this rumor more credible. Kuo noted that these upgrades would “significantly improve image quality.”

A higher 24-megapixel resolution allows photos to keep their quality even when cropped, offering more flexibility during editing. The six-piece lens further enhances image quality by correcting various distortions, leading to clearer and more accurate photos.

The iPhone 17 models are expected to launch in September 2025, over a year from now. Rumors about future iPhone models often start early, as Apple begins developing and prototyping its products well in advance.
