Apple might finally break its long-standing design tradition with the upcoming iPhone 17, expected in 2025. According to a leak on the Chinese platform Weibo by tipster Digital Chat Station, the iPhone 17 Air could feature a design unlike any iPhone we’ve seen before.
A New Look Inspired by Pixel?
Digital Chat Station’s render isn’t an official leak but is based on supply chain information. If accurate, the design has a noticeable resemblance to Google’s Pixel smartphones, particularly in its camera module. Unlike Apple’s usual camera setup on one side of the phone, the rumored iPhone 17 features a horizontal camera bar stretching across the back, much like Google’s Pixel devices.
This design marks a significant shift for Apple, which has traditionally stuck to vertical or square camera arrangements. The render also shows the iPhone 17 with softer, rounder edges compared to the sharper lines of its predecessor, the iPhone 16.
Supporting Evidence From the Supply Chain
Adding credibility to this rumor, another image shared on Weibo reportedly shows the frame of the iPhone 17. It aligns with the render’s design, although it features a mysterious large hole on the back. The purpose of this hole remains unclear, but it could hint at internal design changes.

One standout detail in this leak is the mention of a possible new model called the iPhone 17 Air. Originally reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this slimmed-down version of the iPhone 17 could replace the current “Plus” model. The iPhone 17 Air is rumored to be 2mm thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro, reflecting Apple’s push for sleeker designs.
