Microsoft Outlook will no longer provide personalized email addresses to individuals until end of next year

Posted on

Microsoft will terminate the ability to use Outlook.com email services through a custom domain name (such as yourname@example.com) to Microsoft 365 subscribers. The company has already started sending out emails to Microsoft 365 users, saying it will no longer offer support for personalized email addresses starting November 30 next year.

Microsoft also officially announced the change on a support page: “Beginning November 30, 2023, Microsoft 365 Personal or Microsoft 365 Home users will no longer be able to create an inbox associated with their Outlook.com”.

If the user has set up a personalized email address in Outlook.com, it will continue to work until the user deletes it. Microsoft explains: “After November 30, 2023, if you delete your personalized email address from your Outlook.com account, you will no longer be able to add it back. In this case, continue to use the only option for Outlook with a custom domain name is to use the Microsoft 365 Business plan .”

This is not the first time Microsoft has canceled the use of Outlook.com services with custom domain names. For a while Microsoft allowed users to do so for free through the now-defunct Windows Live Domains service. Later, Microsoft partnered with GoDaddy to offer personalized email addresses to Microsoft 365 personal and home users, but perhaps usage was so low that Microsoft chose not to continue offering the feature.

If you’re interested in using a custom domain name for Outlook.com, you can subscribe to Microsoft 365 by the end of this month and get the domain name you want on GoDaddy. Subscribing to Microsoft 365 also gets you other premium features of Outlook.com, including an ad-free interface, 50GB of storage, and email encryption support.
