The new covid pandemic has caused many people to lose their jobs, and technology giants have reached out to help. On March 30, Microsoft declared that it would give technical training services through its white-collar social network LinkedIn to help 50,000 people find jobs.
These 50,000 jobs did not come from Microsoft itself, but from the so-called “Microsoft Ecosystem”, that is, a large number of companies that use or sell Microsoft products. In fact, Several of LinkedIn’s training assistance activities have already started last year.
After the new covid epidemic swept the United States, employment in the technology industry or other white-collar industries was relatively stable, and employees could continue to work at home, but other service industries experienced large-scale unemployment.
LinkedIn gives some free digital technology training services, including software development, data analysis, and financial analysis. On Tuesday, LinkedIn announced that it will extend the free training until the end of this year. Previously, Microsoft and LinkedIn announced that they would provide free digital technology training to 25 million people, but the two companies raised this number to 30.7 million on Tuesday.
These training subjects come from all over the world, but most of them are Americans. In an article announcing the results of the free training, Microsoft President Smith said that he did not expect 91 people from Antarctica to receive free training.
Microsoft also stated that in the free training program, if there are local non-profit organizations to participate, the training effect will be better. On Tuesday, Microsoft stated it would cooperate with these local organizations to help 50,000 people find jobs in the next three years. The positions are also related to the digital technology training received.
This employment assistance program was initially mainly in the United States and will be extended to other countries and regions next year. It is worth mentioning that this time providing free digital technology training is also the first close cooperation between Microsoft and its two subsidiaries-LinkedIn and programming code hosting service GitHub.
After the earlier acquisition was completed, Microsoft allowed these two subsidiaries to maintain independent operations. Additionally, Microsoft’s own business is gradually returning to normal from the impact of the new covid pandemic. On March 29, as the epidemic in Washington State in the United States eased, Microsoft has partially resumed work in the Redmond headquarters and nearby campus offices.
In 2016, Microsoft acquired the white-collar social network LinkedIn for US$26 billion. This acquisition surprised the outside world because Microsoft has been “isolated” from social networking services in the Internet sector in the past. The outside world believes that the purpose of Microsoft’s move is to deepen the contact with enterprises and employees in order to sell Microsoft business software and cloud computing services to them.
