According to sources familiar with the matter and internal Twitter communications, Musk has asked for the $4.99-a-month paid subscription service Twitter Blue to be adjusted to a more expensive subscription service that can authenticate users.
Musk had been clear in the months leading up to the Twitter acquisition that he wanted to change the way Twitter authenticates accounts and handles bot accounts.
He is also actively seeking to increase subscription revenue to half of the company’s total revenue. On Sunday, he tweeted: “The entire certification process is undergoing a major overhaul.” A Twitter spokesman was not available for comment.
