Apple is gearing up for the release of its new M4 MacBook Pro models, with display panels for the 14-inch and 16-inch versions already shipping to the company. These panels are being delivered in July and August, aligning with an expected launch in the fourth quarter of 2024. This information comes from display analyst Ross Young, who confirmed the news via a tweet to his subscribers.
The upcoming MacBook Pro models will feature Apple’s latest M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max chips. The base 14-inch MacBook Pro will be powered by the standard M4 chip, while the higher-end 14-inch and 16-inch models will be equipped with the more powerful M4 Pro and M4 Max chips. Apple first introduced the M4 chip in the iPad Pro back in May, and now it’s making its way to the MacBook Pro lineup.
While the exterior design of these new MacBook Pros will remain largely the same, Apple is making significant internal upgrades. The M4 chip is built using TSMC’s advanced 3-nanometer process, which promises better performance and energy efficiency compared to its predecessor, the M3 chip. Additionally, the M4 will include an upgraded Neural Engine to handle AI tasks more efficiently.
Apple is also working on refreshing the Mac mini, which is expected to debut alongside the new MacBook Pros. The redesigned Mac mini is rumored to be the smallest Mac ever, possibly around the size of an Apple TV but slightly taller.
The new Macs might be revealed at a separate event in October or November, following the annual September event where Apple typically unveils its latest iPhones and Apple Watch models. Alternatively, Apple could choose to announce them via a press release.
Looking ahead to 2025, Apple plans to refresh the MacBook Air, Mac Pro, and Mac Studio with M4 chips, though these updates will come after the MacBook Pro launch.
